Jon Betts is a skilled fabricator, which means that he makes cool things out of metal. He welds, bends and shapes it into parts for cars, motorbikes and scooters. Jon also upcycles old tools, spark plugs and spanners into quirky and useful items for the home.
Building a new JB Fabrication website
Jon had a small e-commerce website to sell his products and also sold them on eBay, but he really wanted a more comprehensive platform which would properly showcase his business. He didn’t want the hassle of having to add new products himself so wanted to work with someone who could do the technical side of things.
As well as his off-the-shelf parts, he also fabricates bespoke items for specific custom projects.
I was aware of Jon from the scooter scene and actually bought one of his t-shirts after seeing them on Instagram (the power of advertising!), so when I proposed writing a new website for him he jumped at the chance.
The biggest challenge of the project was getting all the products configured. Jon sent me a spreadsheet and all the images, and I worked from that, using a plugin to import the first batch into Woocommerce.
SEO for e-commerce
SEO is really important so I painstakingly wrote alt text for each image and metadata for each product, to give them the best chance of ranking in Google.
Supporting Jon’s expanding business
Since the website’s launch in 2020 Jon has added more merchandise to his portfolio, including new t-shirts, quirky household furniture and useful scooter parts.
Jon also wants to offer a completely new service and I was able to advise how we could achieve that in a cost effective and efficient manner. I look forward to supporting Jon and his business as it grows in the future.
